What is WOC? (Wireless LAN over Cable TV)
This innovative technology was researched and developed by Beijing CYTECH Systems Ltd. It is a patented technology (patent No CN200410086857.6) that makes use of existing hotel television distribution cables to deliver the appropriate WiFi signals without interference directly to all rooms.
How does it work?
The separate TV and WiFi signals are combined together at an appropriate location on every floor and then connected to the cables that carry the normal TV signals.
The signals are further processed and distributed at the individual corridor level to create groups of either 4 or 8 room blocks.
The mixed signal finally reaches the individual room and terminated at the wall panel that normally has a single coaxial socket to provide the TV signal. This panel is replaced by a new one supplied by CYTECH that has within it a special signal splitting unit that separates the TV and WiFi signals that were originally combined at the beginning of the process. The two signals are made available separately from this specialised wall socket. The TV signal is supplied from a standard socket and the WiFi signal from a miniature antenna on the same panel.
As a result the signal provided to each guest is individual to them and they can use multiple devices simultaneously (eg two or three computers shared with colleagues during a meeting). Where a WiFi signal is distributed by normal transmission methods the room walls represent a 25dB loss of signal which causes many of the problems in standard systems. Using the CYTECH system these same walls shield the guests’ individual signals from other users.
We make use of existing hotel television distribution cables to deliver the appropriate WiFi signals without interference directly to all rooms.
