Case Studies : Grand Hyatt Beijing
Situated at the centre of Wangfujing, Grand Hyatt Beijing is at the helm of 5-star hotels in the capital. Prior to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, around 400 of its standard rooms were equipped with WOC (WLAN OVER CATV) technology which overcame the problems of signals being weakened during penetration of walls. Co-frequency interference that usually comes with ordinary APs was also eliminated. Guests who stayed at the hotel during the Olympics enjoyed a smooth and hassle-free internet experience with sound and stable signal transmission. That gave just another boost to the hotel’s reputation.
Background
Grand Hyatt Beijing originally installed multiple APs in corridors for wireless coverage, but signals were weakened after penetrating walls and there was co-frequency interference. Later with individual AP installed in each room, the connection became even more intermittent when the differing signals clashed; plus there were only three interference-free 2.4G channels.
WOC technology has proven to be the solution to Grand Hyatt Beijing’s wireless network problems. Every room is now equipped with reliable wireless broadband connection. Even with a 100% occupancy rate during the Olympics, no failures were reported. The Hotel and their guests are fully satisfied with the network performance.
